UN Passes Resolution Demanding Ceasefire In Gaza
<p> The United Nations Security Council (UN) issued a resolution condemning Israel's actions in killing civilians in Gaza.</p><p><br /></p><p>It follows a warning by the President of the United States (US) Joe Biden about the loss of international support following the 'indiscriminate' bombing.</p><p><br /></p><p>The resolution presented by Egypt received 153 votes in favor of the 193 members who gathered for the emergency special session on Palestine.</p><p><br /></p><p>However, ten countries including the US, Israel and Austria voted against the resolution. Meanwhile, 23 countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Ukraine chose to abstain.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>The raised resolution aims to provide protection to the Palestinian civilian population through international humanitarian law while demanding that all parties comply with their obligations, especially regarding community protection.</p><p><br /></p><p>The draft resolution also demanded the 'immediate and unconditional release' of all hostages and ensure humanitarian access.</p><p><br /></p><p>Last October, the Agong Assembly voted to support a draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities. There are 121 countries in favor, 14 countries against and 44 abstentions.</p><p><br /></p><p>The Gaza Health Ministry said Israel's attack on Gaza to crush Hamas has already killed at least 18,205 Palestinians and injured nearly 50,000 more since October 7.</p><p><br /></p><p>Meanwhile, the senior official of the Palestinian Islamic group, Izzat El-Reshiq in a statement today said Hamas also welcomed the UN's demand for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza and urged the international community to continue pressuring Israel to comply with the resolution.</p>
