Demand 40% Salary Increase, US Workers Launch Strike At 3 Large Factories!
<p> Thousands of workers went on strike at the three biggest US carmakers after failing to reach an agreement on a new labor contract.</p><p><br /></p><p>It comes after the labor contract expired on Thursday night, where the United Auto Workers (UAW) said General Motors (GM), Ford and Stellantis had not submitted new acceptable offers.</p><p><br /></p><p>The strike action could lead to higher prices for buyers and major disruption for the motor industry giants.</p><p><br /></p><p>UAW President Shawn Fain said it was now up to the company to resolve the dispute.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>The strike began at midnight American time (morning in Malaysia) at GM's Wentzville, Missouri truck plant, the Ford plant in Michigan and the Jeep plant in Ohio owned by Stellantis.</p><p><br /></p><p>Targeted attacks usually focus on key factories which can then cause other factories to stop production due to parts shortages.</p><p><br /></p><p>Ford Chief Executive Jim Farley said that the UAW's proposal to raise wages by 40%, reduce the work week and add new pension benefits could bankrupt the company.</p><p><br /></p><p>If implemented, labor costs would more than double, which are already far higher than the labor costs of Tesla, Toyota and other foreign-owned automakers in the US.</p>
